Sample Three Day Itinerary |

45 minutes northeast of Wisconsin Dells
on Highway 23, towards Stevens Point and Green Bay
(and, in a round-about-way, towards Milwaukee)
In a small downtown filled with eye-catching historic architecture are really interesting, quaint shops with unique merchandise and comfortable restaurants with sumptuous menus.
Shopping
Explore a fine art gallery with an urban twist, an old-fashioned soda fountain and ice cream shop with hard-to-find vintage candy and sweets, an eclectic marketplace offering earth-friendly products and treasures of simple beauty created from materials such as reclaimed wood and tin, recycled glass, and organically-grown herbs and fibers.
Sassy, elegant and colorful shops offer yummy French tablecloths, irresistible rugs, hilarious cards, glamour-girl accessories, beautiful vignettes including hand painted furniture, garden, antiques, apparel and accessories, tabletop accessories, antique silver and crystal, vintage sporting goods and beautiful Amish furniture.
Antiques and Flea Market
Princeton, one of the largest antiquing cities in the state, is an antiquer's paradise. "Wisconsin's Largest Weekly Outdoor Flea Market" features over 175 booths every Saturday (late April through late October) in a tree-shaded city park, and attracts thousands of shoppers weekly.
Dining
Stop at the Once in a Blue Moon Café, chosen as one of Victoria Magazine's favorite places for breakfast! Regular fare is given a gourmet twist that alone is worth the drive from the Dells. Order the brie and mango quesadillas.
Pastas and the steak salad are standouts at Mimi’s, a casually elegant restaurant in an 1894 building that once served concurrently as a furniture shop and funeral home.
Stop by The Pizza Factory to try its Parthenon white pizza ($1.95 for 6-inch pie), which won top honors in the vegetarian category at the 2002 International Pizza Show industry competition!
Why Princeton?
So how did this small town, where the highway bypasses the main street, become a center for creative shopping? Tracy Porter, living in the rural area near Princeton, began a business making and painting furniture so beautiful it was soon sold in high-end stores like Neiman Marcus. Tracy opened a store in town to display her wares and customers came from the big cities to shop. Within a couple of years seven luxurious stores opened in downtown Princeton, offering similarly high-end and creative merchandise.
Princeton, right on the Fox River, also offers bike trails, a buffalo farm (which has tours), and festivals throughout the year. It's a great place to stop on your way home from Wisconsin Dells.
